Alzheimer's Care Unit

Our 34-bed Alzheimer’s Care Unit is specially designed to provide the optimal environment for residents affected by the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.  Cherokee County Health and Rehabilitation Center (CCHRC) recognizes the unique needs of seniors with Alzheimer's disease and other related memory impairments.  Our goal is to find ways to involve residents in everyday activities they enjoy in specially designed surroundings that are both safe and stimulating.

Providing care for seniors with Alzheimer's and other memory impairments can be challenging, but CCHRC has designed a specialty care program that works.

The architectural design of our Alzheimer's Care Unit features a cathedral ceiling offering natural light and a spacious common area for residents, family and guests.  Designed through years of study, this unit enables early-stage Alzheimer residents to benefit from the stimulating building design.  The large common area is a place for meals, TV/media viewing, music, family gatherings, and other social activities.  Bird aviaries and memory stations provide comfort to the residents and mental stimulation.

Services and Care Options:

  • Reminiscent community -- individual keepsake galleries allow residents to display pictures and keepsakes to stimulate meaningful memories

  • Companion suites with comfortable quality furnishings and decor

  • Comfortable community areas, including community dining room, media/television and living-room area, memory stations and bird aviaries

  • clothing selection and dressing
